In this two-day course for complete beginners, we will take a deep dive into the 500-year-old craft of bobbin lace, covering not only the technique but also looking at the history, identification, and contemporary practice of lace. We will start by building skills through making a sampler of the basic stitches used in bobbin lace, while comparing regional variations and styles. From there we will learn to combine stitches into traditional Torchon lace patterns in fine thread. By looking closely at lace from the ground up, students will leave with a solid foundation for advancement in this complex art form.

Materials for the workshop are included in the registration fee. Pillows and bobbins may be purchased by students to take home after the class if desired.

Prerequisite: None.
