In this workshop participants will explore natural dyes that grow in Vermont gardens, meadows, and hedgerows. We will begin the day by identifying the local dye plants that many of us know as indigenous weeds and ordinary ornamentals. Together we’ll identify plants and parts used for natural dyes, process dye stuff, cover mordants and modifiers, (what they are and how they are used), prepare the wool skeins for the dye vat, explore over dyeing and fermentation of dye vats.
